We knew this was going to happen. The mirrorless medium format segment do sound a mouth-watering prospect from both the selling and the customer points of view. It is hard to deny this segment, now that the X1D has garnered so much attention. Things are only going to be competitive from here on. No sooner than the Hasselblad X1D was announced, rumor mills are abuzz with the chime that Fuji is working on a medium format mirrorless design of their own.
Rumor states that Fuji will come out with an announcement soon and that it can happen as soon as September. At this time precise specifications are still a bit sketchy. Fuji Rumors state that the camera is likely going to have a 50 megapixel medium format sensor. While the current segment pioneer retails above $9K, Fuji is aiming at a much more humble entry point in pricing.
It also appears from the rumors that Fuji is going to launch three new lenses with the camera and that all of these is going to happen at this year’s Photokina. Shipping dates are still sketchy and it is rumored that the new camera will ship out some time in 2017. Fuji, of course, has denied all the reports.
