Samyang 20mm f/1.8
Great news for full-frame shooters. Samyang has officially announced the 20mm f/1.8 ED AS UMC lens. Geared for full-frame shooters, the new Samyang 20mm f/1.8 is the latest in a line of prime fast aperture lenses that Samyang has launched this year. The USP is definitely the fast wide aperture. It can be used to isolate subjects and or capture a lot of light in dimly lit situations.
Although this lens is compatible with most full-frame DSLR mounts, Samyang’s official statement seems to suggest that they have optimized it more towards mirrorless full-frame cameras.
The new lens has a total of 13 elements arranged in 12 groups. These include two aspherical lenses and a total of three extra-low dispersion elements. These elements will take care of spherical and chromatic aberrations. The lens aperture diaphragm is built out of 7 rounded blades.
The lens is capable of focusing at a close focusing distance of 0.2m. This is a manual focusing lens. Thus, if you find it a tag difficult and don’t quite trust your eyes, you will be better off opting for a lens that autofocuses.
