This lens is the latest among a series of other lenses that have been patent filed by Tamron. These include a 70-200mm f/4 VC, a SP 60mm f/2.8 Di VC USD, a SP 100-400mm f/4.5 – 6.3 VC, a 28-70mm f/3.5 – 5.6 VC full-frame mirrorless, a SP 85mm f/1.4 Di VC USD full frame and a set of 28, 50 and 60mm f/2.8 VC lenses. Tamron is rumored to launch a couple of new lenses this year. One of them is likely going to be a wide angle zoom and the other an ultra-tele-zoom lens.
