Imagine photography sans color. It is unthinkable. Ever since we started our journey in photography we have always shot in color. When I say we, I mean of course, photographers who had picked up a camera in the last couple of decades. If you have a grandfather who was a photography enthusiast back in his days, he would probably resent the fact that everything is so dominated by color these days. I know mine would, if he’d been alive. Can’t argue with that. He is coming from a school of thought that is fast becoming a rarity these days. Summer in India is legendary for all the wrong reasons. So much so that there is actually a phrase “Indian summer.” I, like every other staunch Indian is never too perturbed about summer. Inside, though, I long for an escape to the cool breeze of the sea or the lower Himalayas for a week’s holiday. But taking a week’s break at this time of the year, is unimaginable. Ethical post processing is a fine line that every photographer has to keep in mind when working on their imagery. With so much Photoshop being used it is difficult to come across an image that has not been digitally altered somehow. Having said that, a degree of post-processing is inevitable because images are not always meant to be printed and nailed to a wall. Even then a bit of post-processing would ensure that the images are close to what the photographer envisioned at the time of pressing the shutter release. Read more...
One of things that you must learn is how to use off-camera flash. Or if I may recompose that statement, you must get the habit of using on-camera flash out of your system as early as you can. Of course those without the money to buy lights or those who prefer to shoot mainly with natural lights would disagree with me here. They would argue natural light is the best possible light for shooting weddings. I would agree, if I could have a way to ensure consistent natural light all through the day and during the evening. On many occasions you would find yourself in a desperate situation trying to complete a shoot because the sun is going behind the horizon. Read more...
