After months of speculation and keeping the rumor mills buzzing, the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E ED is finally shipping out. Amazon lists the shipping date as August 27th. B&H lists it as August 26th. Adorama has scheduled it for August 26th as well. Stjørdal Foto in Norway has recently received their delivery of the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E ED. According to them the lens is
“Very beautiful to look at and deliver great results.”
Needless to say we are not disagreeing. From the initial few images that have appeared online shot with the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E ED, the results are indeed beautiful. The results are quite sharp and the bokeh is very creamy.
A bunch of early testers of the lens including brand ambassador Vincent Versace and Lindsay Silverman have appreciated the envious combination of sharpness with creamy bokeh.
The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E ED has been designed with the “three dimensional high fidelity” concept that we saw with the 58mm f/1.4 lens. This concept results in a gradual transition from out of focus effect to sharpness, something that produces the desired effect of sense of depth in the image. This is something that is difficult to achieve in a fast wide aperture lens, but nevertheless looks fantastic in the final scheme of things.
The lens also incorporates three extra-low dispersion (ED) elements which counters ghosting and flares typical in wide aperture lenses. Additionally, the lens incorporates Nano Crystal Coating that produces better contrast and saturated color compared to other non- Nano crystal coated lenses.
Additional features include a better performance managing sagittal coma flare representing point light sources without issues even when they are at the far corner of the frame and fluorine coating that ensures that dirt and grime are never a problem with this lens.
